Good Samaritan TrustDo you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 1Cor. 9:24-27
Sport is one of the few activities that bring people together no matter where you are on the globe. Colour, race, language, religion, age and gender are all forgotten on the sporting field in the pool or on the court. Many sports organizations, agencies and local churches have long known of the benefit of being involved in sport and serving sports people as a way to build a bridge to connect with their cultures.
Sports is a vehicle which enables local churches to go outside their walls to connect with people who are not involved in a church by attracting them with one of their major interest gatherings. Large percentages of people attending sporting events in athletic stadiums have little or no association with a local church; while in contrast, the vast majority of people attending Church Evangelistic Campaigns are Churched.

Church sports
The FEDA principle is the underlying reason for a sports ministry. The FEDA principle is as follows: (THE SPORTS MINISTRY OF THIS CHURCH EXISTS IN ORDER TO FULFILL GOD’S MANDATE TO “MAKE DISCIPLES.”
We Will Do This By Providing Activities And Events That Do The Following.
- F = Providing opportunities for local church members to FELLOWSHIP (believer to believer and believer to unbeliever).
- This fellowship will open the door for local church members to E = EVANGELISM (Lifestyle or incarnational evangelism that gives opportunity to live our faith out before people in order to have credibility when we declare our faith.
- D = DISCIPLESHIP (Since Christians are in process, new believers or long-time believers need to grow in their faith. Sports and recreation activities will give opportunity to ground new believers in the local church and help growing believers become conformed to the image of Christ.)
- As FED is embraced, ultimately they should lead to A = ASSIMILATION (Building relationships, seeing people saved and grow can end up not building a local church if we don’t build a bridge from the field of play to the place of worship.
Using Big Sporting Events – World Cup DVD
Through world cup DVDs, the testimonies of many top level football players have been able to reach to the common people. During the last world cup season, We could distribute around 3000 DVDs all around the state of Tamilnadu and had big screened the main events with proclamation of Gospel.
Believers are encouraged to grow more in faith through participating and teaching the biblical values of sports. Many Believers in the church are not really involved in Ministry. Many of them are interested in sports.
By training them they can be the leaders that lead the sport events and follow up on the new believers.
